The conversion of glycerol to 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PD) by Clostridium acetobutylicum ATCC 4259 was studied in an anaerobic culture using commercial glycerol as the sole carbon source. The objective of this study was to determine the best concentration of glycerol used for the production of 1,3-propanediol and to study the cell growth kinetics of Clostridium acetobutylicum ATCC 4259 using fermentation of 10g.L glycerol and to compare the experimental results with those obtained through the traditional mathematics model. The concentrations evaluated of glycerol were 10.0; 30.0 and 60.0g.L. The amount of glycerol consumed and the 1,3-PD produced were determined using chromatography. Cell growth kinetics was measured turbidimetrically (at 660nm). The best conversion rate of glycerol to 1,3-propanediol and biomass was 0.31g.g and 0.21g.g, obtained from the fermentation of 10g.L substrate. In this research, the Monod model presented a way to express the experimental data, showing the following values of kinetic constants, 0.024h and 0.011g.L to μmax and K respectively.

Quantitative structure antitumoral-activity relationships of thiadiazinthione derivatives using the novel hybrid molecular index pMRchi.
PURPOSE The recently defined molar-refractivity-partition index was applied to a family of 1,3,5- thiadiazin-2-thione derivatives in order to establish quantitative structure-antitumoral models. The goal of this effort is to establish the relationships between the structure and biological response of these compounds. METHOD After the splitting of the sample in two sets, their indices were cor...
متن کاملIn vitro - in vivo correlation: from theory to applications.
A key goal in pharmaceutical development of dosage forms is a good understanding of the in vitro and in vivo performance of the dosage forms. One of the challenges of biopharmaceutics research is correlating in vitro drug release information of various drug formulations to the in vivo drug profiles (IVIVC). Thus the need for a tool to reliably correlate in vitro and in vivo drug release data ha...

متن کاملAntimalarial and Reno-protective Potentials of Combined Stem Bark Extracts of Khaya grandifoliola and Enantia chlorantha in Plasmodium Infected Mice
Background: Malaria is a worldwide threat, which affects millions of people. Although several antimalarial has been reported, they are either not effective or toxic. This study evaluated the antimalarial efficacy and safety of stem bark aqueous extracts of Khaya grandifoliola (KG) and Enantia chlorantha (EC) in Plasmodium berghie (NK65S) infected Swiss mice. Methods: Forty-two animals were gro...
متن کاملThe Lack of Stability of the Impact Factor of the Mathematical Journals
Introduction Although the 2-year Thomson-Reuters Impact Factor (IF) has become a usual tool for measuring the scientific productivity of all fields of the natural sciences (see Aleixandre-Benavent, Valderrama Zurián, & González Alcaide, 2007), its behavior in the particular case of the journals of pure mathematics (the area MATHEMATICS in the thematic directory of Thomson-Reuters) is far from b...
